Expanded Armory by GimmeYerGold

Written by GimmeYerGold from Ye Olde Inn:

I've been working on this for a bit, with some helpful pointers from sajungzak and Sjeng. I think it's close to finished:

(All custom art additions are either photoshopped items from the armory or modified Gary Chalk Lone Wolf images)

A handful of notes:

1) The "Library Spells" referenced in the Spell Shop are the WoM & Elf Quest spells, all shuffled together in one deck.

2) The rule for Two-Weapon Proficiency is the closest I can come to a balanced dual-wielding ability without getting too complicated--the two attacks still allow the monster to defend twice, which is a little more fair than stacking 5 combat die against one defense attempt. Also offers a little more fun if there's an adjacent monster to attack if the first attack slays one right away.

3) Went with something unconventionally conventional for the horn--one player could soften up a monster's mind points with the horn, while a spellcaster readies a status-ailment spell, etc. (or just go all the way, and leave a vegetable monster standing stupefied)

4) The skeleton key is a cheaper option for someone only interested in treasure hidden in trapped chests/cupboards/behind locked doors--it's been 7 quests in my game, and no one has bought the tool kit--they just expect the dwarf to take care of everything :/

5) The only other thing I can think of is possibly coloring the b/w images on the left side, and a tweak here or there to prices/powers.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Painted some Bones

Yup, I finally finished painting my skeleton Bones (pun intended). Here they are!

I was inspired by the shields painted by the 1000 foot general. I basecoated these bleached bone, then added a skull white highlight on them, painted the weapons and shields a mix of brown and red, to create a rusty look, and drybrushed them gunmetal. Then I painted in the black and the white designs. Finally I simply added some Quickshade with a brush. It took over a week to dry! Must have been the Bonesium. But when it finally stopped feeling tacky, I sprayed some anti shine varnish on them, and they're fine now :)

Saturday Night Dungeon: Court of the Witch Lord

New Years Eve, and another evening of HeroQuest! Our heroes have found the stairway leading up to the Witch Lord's lair, and must find a way to defeat this evil lich.

The table is set, the snacks and drinks are abundant, and the fluffy evil Tiger of Doom is watching... Butch the Dwarf has undergone a total makeover.
Upon entering the room at the top of the stairwell, the Elf immediately opens the first door, and spots an orc at both ends of the corridor! Alarmed, she fires her crossbow at the closest one.
The bolt twangs off of the orc, which turns out to be some sort of magical statue, because her crossbow suddenly catches fire! As she drops it from her hands, it incinerates, and Elly is left weaponless... Fortunately, Sjengis Khan the Barbarian still carries his broadsword, and hands it to her.
Butch the Dwarf opens another door, and Sjengis enters the hallway. He spots a third orc statue at the end, and when arriving at the intersection, the way is blocked. Furthermore, a pit trap is discovered. Back to the Elf then.
The new bigger gameboard is great, but has one overlooked disadvantage: all the blocked sqaure tiles have become too small! Time to make new ones ;)
As the others move on, they find and disarm a pit trap. Meanwhile, Sjengis is back in the first room, and searches for treasure. He finds 25 gold.
Elly finds another pit trap and a speartrap in the intersecting hallway.
After Butch disarms the trap, Elly opens the door and spots two mummies in the room. She walks in and attacks with the broadsword, but unaccustomed to such heavy weaponry, she misses. Butch attacks it as well, but it blocks his attack.
Sjengis catches up and finally kills it in one stroke, dealing two damage. Eddy stumbles in and uses his holy water on the second mummie, which dissolves, moaning loudly.
Elly meanwhile finds a secret door into a room with a strange creature, heavily armed and armoured... "This guy doesn't seem to be undead" she says to the others. "No good lady Elf" it says in a gutteral voice, "I am Teemu, a travelling merchant from way up north. I am a polar bugbear in search of loot to sell. Many adventurers have travelled here before, and were slain by the undead armies of the Witch Lord. I dare not travel further, so I will be heading back. But you may purchase anything I carry before I leave".
"Curious creature" says the Dwarf. "Do you have a crossbow perchance, oh frosty one?" Elly asks. "Why yes, I do." it answers. Elly loans some gold from Butch and buys herself a new crossbow. Butch meanwhile searches the room for treasure and find 100 gold pieces. "Ha! You missed this bit o loot, Teemu!" he shouts gleefully, and as he does, he opens the door into the corridor.
Meanwhile, Sjengis Khan had been searching for treasure as well in the previous room, and found a wandering mummie there. It has taken one point of damage from him.
Sjeng attacks his assailant, but misses. As Eddy searches the corridor for traps, Elly shoots her new crossbow at the mummie, taking one life from it. Butch heads back to aid Sjengis as well, and kills the mummie.
Eddy finds another pit trap, and the heroes walk over, letting Butch disarm it. He falls in doing so, and takes one damage. Furter on, the way is blocked by yet another orc statue...  The only unexplored corridor is to the center.
So the heroes head back, and spot a forgotten hidden door! Inside a tiny room 4 zombies turn their heads at them as the door is pushed open.
While Sjengis and Butch take on the shambling zombies, Elly catches up, passes them, and moves towards another door in the hallway, leading to another small room. Eddy scouts ahead to see if there are more traps.
After all the zombies have been cleared out, Sjengis has suffered one point of damage, but Butch finds a spell scroll with the Ball of Flame spell. The second small room is empty, but Sjengis spends a whole turn searching for gold coins. He finds 50 gold, but has lagged behind finding them.
The party opens another door and find 6 skeletons waiting for them. They advance and crowd in front of the door, and each time a skeleton attacks, it misses, and Butch dispatches them one by one.
The fifth skeleton manages to actually hit Butch, but he blocks it easily..."Hahahaha, these buggers are blind as bats!" Sjengis laughs, and walks inside to slay the last of them.
When Eddy searches the room for hidden traps and doors, he spots a secret door. Two Doomguards and a mummie are inside the hidden room, along with a small chest. The Doomguards immediately spring into action, and rush at the Barbarian. He tries to block the attacks, but loses one body point.
Elly fires her crossbow at the purple Doomguard, and scores a hit! The Dwarf rolls a lousy three, minus two penalty, so he can't enter to help.
Sjengis deals three more damage to the purple Doomguard, and it falls to the floor.
Eddy casts Tempest on the blue Doomguard, and it must skip a turn. The mummie enters the room though, and attacks Sjengis. It scores three hits, but Sjengis blocks them all! Elly fires at it, but the mummie blocks. Butch finally manages to roll enough to reach the Doomguard, and scores a solid hit. So does Sjengis, bringing the Doomguard down to 2 body points.
Eddy next tries to attack with his staff, but misses. He screams and runs away.
The Doomguard and the mummie attack the Barbarian again, but he blocks both attacks, taking no damage.
Elly shoots the mummie for two hitpoints, and it dies.
Next, Butch scores another two hits on the last Doomguard, and it falls to the floor!
Elly opens the other door, and finds a pit trap behind it! The room is otherwise empty, so the heroes ignore it and check out the room with the treasure chest. Inside the chest, they find two healing potions! Huzzah!
The next corridor holds no traps, and so the only remaining door is the one leading into the dreaded central room... Sjengis takes the lead and opens the door. He finds an army of undead inside, lead by the evil Witch Lord! He immediately throws his Magical Dagger at him, scoring a solid hit! Eddy wastes no time and uses his Fire of Wrath on the Witch Lord too, believing that he too, is immune to his Genie like Kessendria.
Another body point is taken from the lich, but it still lives! It snarls angrily at the heroes, and casts a powerful Thunderbolt spell at them
Sjengis, Butch and Eddy are standing behind eachother in the corridor, and all are hit by the spell! Sjengis deflects the bolt with his giant sword, Butch ducks beneath it, but poor Eddy takes one damage from the spell.
The Dwarf and Elf hide in the previous room, while Sjengis blocks the door, trying to take on the undead singlehandedly. Eddy stands ready with spells to aid him. He casts Rock Skin on the Barbarian to strengthen his defenses.
A mummie attacks Sjengis, and scores three hits, but Sjengis manages to roll three shields with his seven combat dice, and so he barely deflects the damage, keeping the important enchantment active. The Witch Lord summons two more skeletons to his aid!
Sjengis kills the mummie in front of him with a whopping three points of damage, and Eddy casts Courage on the Barbarian, also buffing his attack. "Let them come!" he roars defiantly.
A lowly skeleton attacks him, but misses. The Witch Lord retreats behind his army, but no other undead advance. The heroes must enter the room if they want to win this day...
After Sjengis slays the skeleton, and another one after that, the others join him, and enter the room. Eddy uses his Genie spell on a Doomguard, but it misses completely!!! "Oops" Eddy mumbles.
Elly kills another skeleton with her crossbow, and Butch slays a second skeleton. Sjengis takes down a third. The Witch Lord moves to a spot where he has a good view of the Barbarian, and casts Tempest on him, causing him to miss a turn again. Both Doomguards attack Sjengis, and while still being held by the Tempest spell, he manages to deflect one blow, but misses another and loses one body point. Two skeletons attack the Dwarf and Elf, but both are blocked.
The Elf switches back to her loaned broadsword and hacks away at one Doomguard, taking one life from it. Butch takes on the other Doomguard and manages to miraculously slay it in one blow.
"Nice one!" shouts Sjengis, still dizzy from the Tempest spell. Eddy heals the Barbarian back to 6 bosy points with his Heal Body spell.
Now the Witch Lord casts Fear on the poor Barbarian, and the remaining Doomguard attacks him as well. It only scores one hit, and Sjengis blocks it easily. The three remaining skeletons attack the Dwarf, Elf and Barbarian respectively, but only the Elf is caught off guard and suffers two damage. She fires back at it, but it even blocks her two hits! Butch fortunately takes out a skeleton next. Sjengis, holding the Talisman of Lore, rolls two shields in defense of the Fear spell, and shrugs it off. "Ha!" he yells, and attacks the last Doomguard.
He scores a solid four hits, and the Doomguard fumbles his defense, and goes down in a tumble of armour. One skeleton attacks Sjengis but misses again, and another attacks Elly but is blocked. Angered and desperate, seeing his evil plans foiled, the Witch Lord casts Firestorm, enveloping the entire room in flames! Butch takes two damage, Sjengis takes one and Elly takes two as well, but fortunately, one of the skeletons is burnt to a crisp as well. Elly quickly slays the last skeleton, leaving only the Witch Lord in the room.
The Dwarf sees his chance, and throws his Magical Dagger at the Witch Lord, hoping to finish him, but he still lives! Sjengis rushes forward and swings his mighty bastard sword, only to see it pass right through the evil lich. "Hahahahaha!!! Your weapons cannot harm me!" it cackles madly. "Leave with your lives while you still can!" "Not on my watch" Eddy shouts as he walks in and casts his final offensive spell Ball of Flame on the lich. "NOOOOOOOO!" it screams as it only manages to deflect one point of damage. The evil Witch Lord is finally defeated! Our heroes cheer, and head back to the surface, having saved the day! Huzzah!

Saturday Night Dungeon: The Last Gate

Christmasday, and time for another epic quest! Huzzah! This time out heroes venture towards the Last Gate. What will lie ahead? We decided to start using the NA rules and monster stats to increase difficulty...

The Elf carefully enters the dungeon, and searches for traps. The way is clear. Two doors are nearby. The Dwarf heads to the southern door, and opens it, revealing a room with 5 skeletons at the ready!
Sjengis Khan the Barbarian rushes in next, and completely fumbles his attack!
While Eddy Wizzard stays outside next to the Dwarf, two skeletons attack the Barbarian. One is deftly blocked and the other misses.
Elly the Elf quickly enters the room and shoots down one skeleton. Butch the Dwarf kills a second one, and Sjengis slays a third.
Eddy feels invigorated by the others, and heads in, attacking a fourth skeleton, but misses. "Crap", he utters, just before the remaining two skeletons rush at him. Eddy suffers one damage from the attacks.Elly is unable to fire her crossbow in the crowded space with the others blocking her view, so she steps aside for the Dwarf, who kills another skeleton.
Sjengis manages to scatter the last one's bones to the floor and Eddy searches for traps and secret doors, but finds none.
Elly searches for treasure, but stumbles upon a trap and suffers one damage.
Butch opens the next door, and carefully examins the tile behind it for traps. It is safe, so Sjengis enters and examines the rest of the room for traps. When the all clear is given, Eddy enters the room. Elly looks for treasure again in the new room and finds 25 gold under the table this time.
Butch opens the next door and finds two skeletons and a mummie waiting for him. He runs straight at the mummie, ignoring possible traps, and swings his bastard sword at it. But the mummie manages to block his attack and suffers no damage. The Barbarian rolls two movement, meaning he can't move due to the 2 movement point penalty from his heavy plate armour.
Eddy wisely waits his turn... One of the skeletons heads for the Barbarian who is blocking the door, and scores two hits, but Sjengis blocks them both. The other skeleton and the mummie attack the Dwarf, but he easily deflects their blows.
With the skeleton blocking the door on the other side of the Barbarian, Elly must wait her turn. Butch attacks the mummie, but is blocked once again! Fortunately Sjengis kills the skeleton at the door. Eddy waits bravely.
Again, the undead attack, but both are blocked by the Dwarf and Barbarian. The Elf must again wait as the skeleton blocked the door again.
Butch manages to deal three damage to the mummie, slaying it in one fell stroke! Sjengis kills the skeleton as well, and Eddy can safely enter to search for traps. None are found. Elly is once again the first to search for treasure, but finds a wandering chaos warrior! It attacks, but Elly barely blocks its attack. Butch comes to the rescue, and rolls three hits, but one is blocked, leaving it with 1 remaining body point. The monsters are getting tougher! Sjengis's attack is blocked and Eddy cowers in the corner. The following Chaos Warrior's attack is also blocked, and Elly wastes no time firing her crossbow, scoring the killing hit!
Butch opens the door to the next room, and finds an altar with two mummies next to it. He attacks one, and scores two solid hits, reducing it to dust.
Sjengis is less fortunate, as his three hits are all blocked by the now alerted remaining mummie! Eddy pretends he's doing something important, reading his spellbook, waving the others away.
Elly decides to go towards the next door, while Butch dispatches the second mummie with a solid three hits versus no defense! Sjengis makes sure there are no traps, and Eddy continues to mumble in himself as he slowly heads towards the Elf. "Time you stopped lollygagging, wizard!" she says angrily.
Elly opens the door, and is greeted by the evil laughter of Kessendria the Witch Queen and her bodyguards: 5 skeletons and a mummie! "Prepare to DIE fools!" she screams, but Elly has already fired her crossbow at the nearest skeleton, reducing it to a pile of bones. Butch rushes to Elly's aid, but stops short in front of the door. Sjengis is tired of the Elf getting all the loot, and searches for threasure. He is rewarded: he finds 300 gold inside the desk!
Eddy closes his tome with a loud slap, and casts a serious look at Elly. "Observe!" he exclaims, and starts casting his powerful Genie spell. A blue mist fills the room, and a Genie materializes out of thin air. "Kill the hag!" Eddy commands, and it flies towards Kessendria, only to dissipate upon contact! "What!?" Eddy cries "What evil witchcraft is this?" "HAHAHAHAHAHA" Kessendria cackles "yous puny spells are no match for me!". Eddy pouts. Kessendria walks to the door and casts a powerfull spell called Thunderbolt, ripping a blast of energy through Butch and Elly. Butcyh ducks, but Elly suffers one damage! Another skeleton blocks the door in front of Kessendria, and attacks Butch, but he defends well and takes no damage.
Elly must wait her turn again, but Butch kills the skeleton blocking the door. The Barbarian can now enter the room, and attacks the Witch Queen, who suffers one damage, but is not slain yet! Eddy turns to his Fire spells this time and casts Fire of Wrath on Kessendira, taking another body point. "Aha! Not so immune now, are we?" he boasts triumphantly. Kessendria shrieks and casts Tempest on Sjengis, who must skip a turn, and retreats behind her guards. Elly heads into the room and fires upon the mummie, scoring three hits. It can only block one, and falls to the ground defeated. Butch kills another skeleton, and Sjengis is forced to skip his turn, dizzy by the Tempest spell.
Eddy, still angry, enters defiantly, and casts his other offensive Fire spell: Ball of Flame! Kessendria screams and as she curses the heroes, disintegrates in a grey cloud of smoke. "Did we kill her?" Sjengis asks. "I am not sure" Elly says. "Of course I did." Eddy boasts, "we shall never see her ugly features again."

The two remaining skeletons attack Eddy, angry at his insolence, and score one damage against him. Elly quickly dispatches one of them and Sjengis kills the second one.
With the room cleared, Eddy finds a secret door!
A foul smell emanates from the secret passageway. "I think this leads to the Witch Lord's lair" Elly says, "we should explore the remaining rooms before we head on". And so the heroes backtrack to the northern door in the corridor.
Along the way, Eddy casts Swift wind on Sjengis, who is encumbered by the heavy plate armour, and rolls a 12 movement himself. And so they quickly reach a weapons room, guarded by a chaos warrior and two zombies.
Elly fires her crossbow at the Chaos Warrior, dealing one damage. Butch quickly follows, doing two more damage, killing the fiend. Sjengis slays a zombie easily, and the remaining zombie lurches at him, but misses. As Elly explores the northern corridor, Butch utterly destroys the last zombie. Sjengis finds two magical throwing daggers on the rack, and hands one to Butch. Eddy finds no traps in the room, so upon Elly's return from the dead end corridor, they open the next door.
More zombies await! Elly fires and takes one down immediately. Sjengis slays another, and Butch can only move 2 steps.
The remaining zombie tries to bite Sjengis, but he deflects the attack with his bastard sword. Elly steps inside the room and shoots the last zombie down. Butch is again hindered by his heavy plate armour, and with Sjengis in his way, he can only move one step. The Barbarian searches for treasure, and finds a Tempest spell scroll. Eddy discovers no traps in the room, and so they advance to yet another door.
A cabinet with a rat on top is in the next room. The heroes find no traps inside, but the cabinet holds a vial of Holy Water! Handy in these undead infested dungeons.
The last room is occupied by three chaos warriors, guarding a chest. A long battle ensues, and the red Chaos Warrior is the first to fall to the attacks of the  Elf and Barbarian. Eddy casts courage on the Dwarf to stengthen his attacks.
Soon, the purple Chaos Warrior is also slain, but the Dwarf has taken three damage. Sjengis also suffered damage, but Eddy casts his Tempest spell on the last Chaos Warrior, and it is soon killed as well.
Eddy discovers another secret door, and again the vile stench of death enters the room. "I'm betting this passage leads to the same spot as the southern passage" Eddy says.
Sure enough, the heroes find a door into a central room with four doors. Inside are just two skeletons. Wary of traps, Elly steps in just 1 spot, and shoots down one of the skeletons. While the others catch up, the second skeleton attacks Elly and takes away one body point. Elly takes one step back and shoots it. As Butch rolls yet another low movement, Sjengis enters the room as well, and finds two pit traps and NINE spear traps, which he harmlessly sets off. "Good thing we stayed close to the door!" exclaims Elly.
Elly uses her Treasure Without Doom scroll from a previous quest, and finds... Nothing!
The only remaining corridor to be explored leads to a room with a staircase, leading up to the lair of the Witch Lord himself... Butch finds 10 gold in the room, and then our heroes ascend the stairs, the evil stench growing thicker as they go...

To be continued!
